BEST FRIEND AND MUM

This was a comissioned piece for my best friends mother.What could she possibly give her that she hadn't already got.
Thankfully she loved it.
My first pleasure is in painting , my second is watching the receivers facial expression. More often than not tears are involved.

I deliberately used different colours to the original photo to emphasize his character and bring a new life to his look.

My love of music and the 'greats' inspired me to paint selected artists of different styles and eras.

LADY IN DENIAL

ANOTHER PAINTING FROM THE CAFE COLLECTION.
On showing her this she was horrified and hated it scowling me.
I was shocked as it was exactly as her photo. I was then told by her friends that she was in denial of her age and that the painting was 'too life like.'
A harsh lesson learned I feel. Get to know your sitters before painting them !

OLD FRIEND IN PASTELS

This painting is part of a collection of people that gather in a local cafe.
I took photos randomly,with permission of course.I developed them, met up with them to discuss which pictures most reflected their true character. I then narrowed it down to ten and painted them in pastels gels inks and watercolours.
